Wait before baking – Walnut Product Recall 2010

by DP Nguyen 4 Comments

You may want to wait before you do any holiday baking this December. There’s a product recall you want to know about. Harris Teeter grocery shoppers beware and check your walnuts!

Tropical Nut & Fruit of Charlotte, North Carolina is voluntarily recalling all of products that contain walnuts, which were supplied by Atlas Walnuts, LLC. The walnuts are suspected of being contaminated with salmonella – a bacteria infection that pose serious health risk to young child, elderly people, and those with immune deficiencies. People who are infected with Salmonella often develop a fever, have diarrhea, and experience abdominal cramps 12 to 72 hours after infection. They are typically sick for 4 to 7 days. In severe cases, they are hospitalized.

These recalled walnut products were sold in retail stores nationwide and sold to a number of manufacturers and distributors. Of the 15 recalled products, some contained walnut halves and energy mixes. Some have the Harris Teeter label on them. Tropical Nut & Fruit hasn’t received any complaints from customers yet, but if you have any questions about the recall, you should call (800) 438-4470. If you think you have a recalled product, you can return it at the place you bought it for a full return.

For a list of the products being recalled, their brand name, item number, package/size, UPC code, and best before this date, go to the FDA website HERE.
