Change Your Exercise Routine to Reap Benefits

When this happens to you, then you have reached a plateau. This happens when the body becomes too used to the routine that you are doing. In order to grow and to develop, the muscles of the body need to be challenged during workouts. If you are doing the same exercise over and over again, your muscles are not challenged anymore. This is the reason why you need to change your exercise routine regularly.

Why You Really Need to Change Your Routine

Some people may ask, “but shouldn’t we stick to what works?” While it is important to stick to workout routines that seem to work for you, doing the same thing over and over again will not do your body any good. Sure, you can stick to the same old routine for the rest of your life, just don’t expect them to get you nearer to your fitness goals. The reason why “the last 5 pounds” is hard to get rid off is because by the time most people are near to their ideal weight, their bodies start getting accustomed to the things that they are doing.

Change is not only good physically but also psychologically. Admit it, when you do something over and over again, even if it is exciting at first, it gets boring after quite some time. The same is true with workout routines. People get bored with exercise routines so knowingly or unknowingly, the energy and passion they invest on the activity decrease as time goes by. By changing your routine, your interest level in your workout will not wane. Instead, your passion and your level of excitement will be renewed.

How to Introduce Change to Your Workout

You don’t have to make drastic changes to your workout routine. If you are doing weight training, for example, you can just introduce a new exercise or you can add some more weight to what you’re lifting. You can also change the time of the day when work out. If you used to exercise in the morning then you can start exercising in the afternoon or even in the evening. Simple changes like these can already do wonders for your workout.

Try a New Type of Exercise

One of the best things that you can do though to get out of a plateau is to introduce a new form of exercise in your routine. If you’ve always wanted to try yoga, then this is the perfect time to get into the ancient technique. You can also try usng a needak rebounder, which is a form of exercise that is quickly gaining in popularity. The key is to be able to challenge your body again in new ways. When you try a new exercise such as Yoga, you will also be employing muscles that you haven’t used before.

We often find ourselves in different kinds of rut. Fortunately when it comes to exercise, all it requires is a little change.

I have been doing the same routine for about 12 weeks in one of the best gyms in town. The first 8 weeks I gained about 6 pounds while doing a very clean bulk. But the past 4 weeks nothing has changed in my workout or diet at all. I am eating the same and having the same workouts. I havent gone up in weight on anything for the past 4 weeks too. Is it time for a new routine?

Great article and something I find myself struggling with as well. I love to run and take Zumba classes at our local gym. And it’s tough to get out of what is comfortable. I recently tried our Kickboxing Bootcamp classes and loved them!
