The Fertility Diet: Top Foods for Getting Pregnant

by DP Nguyen 2 Comments

diet for conception

diet for conceptionGetting pregnant should be simple, right? After all, you’ve probably been practicing the act of “baby making” (albeit a protected activity) for quite some time now. All it takes is an egg and a sperm to make a baby, or so the textbooks tell us. Yet when it comes down to the nitty gritty of conception, trying to conceive can be a complicated and frustrating experience. Not every woman is lucky enough to get pregnant after one night of unprotected sex. When you’re trying to conceive and you’re unsuccessful month after month, you are probably asking yourself, “Why?! Why can’t I get pregnant?”

Although I wish I could give you an easy answer to that question, every woman is different. You might have an underlying reproductive issue, or you might be having sex at the wrong time of the month. Or the answer may even simpler than that. You may be eating the wrong types of food.  [Read more…] about The Fertility Diet: Top Foods for Getting Pregnant

What are the Earliest Signs of Pregnancy

by DP Nguyen 66 Comments

early signs of pregnancy

early signs of pregnancyIt’s been a few weeks since you did the deed (without protection), and now you’re wondering, “Am I pregnant?”

You feel more exhausted than normal; your breasts are swollen and tender; and you’re always running to the bathroom to pee. Are your symptoms normal PMS, or are you pregnant?

Because PMS symptoms can be remarkably similar to the very early signs of pregnancy, it’s a good idea for you to assume that you’re pregnant (or could be pregnant). If you think that you might be pregnant, start making healthy eating choices, pay careful attention to any over-the-counter or prescription medications you take, and avoid any nicotine or alcohol products until you rule out pregnancy. Make sure that you also begin taking prenatal vitamins!

So, what are the earliest signs of pregnancy?

Can You Get Pregnant on Your Period?

by DP Nguyen 63 Comments

Having your period

Having your period and pregnancy“Can you get pregnant on your period?” and “can you get pregnant right after your period?” are the two frequently asked questions in my blog’s comments.

The answer – yes, it is possible for you to get pregnant while having your period (and right after your menstrual period, too). But conception under these circumstances is highly unlikely for most women, because it involves two key reproductive elements. For one, you must be ovulating early. And two, you have unprotected sex while on your period.

Unprotected sex automatically puts you at risk for pregnancy. Although your chance of getting pregnant on your period is fairly low, it can happen under the right circumstances. Women with shorter menstrual cycles (for example: 21 day cycles) are often at higher risk of getting pregnant on their period. [Read more…] about Can You Get Pregnant on Your Period?

Are You Ready for a Baby?

by DP Nguyen 2 Comments

ready for baby

ready for babyBabies are adorable and very lovable, but they do come with a TON of responsibilities. If you’re still trying to conceive, you may want to take a careful look at whether you’re ready for a baby and ready for parenthood. Being a mom is a full-time job – an unpaid job at that. You will work 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

Parenting is hard work; don’t let anyone tell you differently. You can’t take a break, or a vacation from being a mom. Even when you’re not physically near your child, you are responsible for the physical and emotional well-being of him or her. Anxiety and worry will be part of your daily life. Are you ready for this challenge?

Trying to Conceive? Good Oral Health Improves Your Chances

Trying to Conceive Fertility

By Guest Blogger, Becca Ozard.

Trying to Conceive FertilityWhile it may seem strange to link oral hygiene with your chances of conceiving and maintaining a healthy pregnancy, recent studies have concluded that bad oral hygiene can impacts a woman’s ability to both get pregnant and to carry a baby to full term without the risk of complications.

Just earlier this month, on July 5, 2011, researchers met at a reproduction conference in Sweden and they argued that oral health could have a major impact on a woman’s fertility. The scientists presented preliminary research that suggested that a woman’s chance of getting pregnant can depend on how well she takes care of her teeth and gums. Good oral hygiene can boost a woman’s chance of pregnancy. [Read more…] about Trying to Conceive? Good Oral Health Improves Your Chances
