Baby Milestone Chart (Infographic)

by DP Nguyen 4 Comments

baby milestone chart

From the time your baby is born, he or she will undergo dramatic change in the first two years of life. Your baby’s diet will change from breast milk (or formula) to solid foods, then finger foods, and so on. Your baby’s physical development will astound you. For example, you will love hearing your baby’s coos, his or her first words, and his or her first sentence.

I found this really impressive baby milestone chart – which will take you through your baby’s development month-to-month. You will learn how your baby’s dietary needs will change, his or her physical development, language development, and cognitive development. It is amazing how much a baby will change in the first two years of life.

And if you’re wondering how expensive a baby’s first year will be, this infographic also gives you an interesting view. For instance, did you know that in the first year alone, you will spend $2,000 in disposable diapers? And $1,700 in formula (if you don’t breastfeed).

Check it out, and let me know what you think!

What is Cradle Cap?

by DP Nguyen 1 Comment

Baby Ecezema

Baby EcezemaCradle cap is a common skin condition in young babies, especially in the first couple months of life. It’s a form of baby eczema, but it’s rarely uncomfortable or itchy for the baby. The medical term for this inflammatory skin condition is infantile seborrheic dermatitis or seborrheic eczema.

Babies who have cradle cap may have flaky, dry skin on their scalp; or they may have oily, yellowish or brown crusting scaly patches on their head. Cradle cap can occur with or without any reddened skin. The flaky patches might shed off, flaking off when you wash your baby’s scalp. It can be similar to dandruff.

You may notice the crusting patches of cradle cap on your baby’s ears, eyebrows, eyelids, armpits, and any other oily creases on his or her body.

How to Freeze Organic Baby Food

by Guest Writer 4 Comments

freezing baby food

freezing baby foodWhen breastfeeding stops and your baby is ready to move on to solids, you begin to pine for those good old days when “preparing” a meal for your kid was as easy as placing him or her gently on your bosom.

Unfortunately, breast milk is not enough anymore and soon enough, baby is ready for fruits and vegetables, and very soon after that, meat. The choice then becomes: buy food in a jar or prepare it yourself.  While most prefer making baby food themselves, the problem is, in many households where both parents are working, cooking healthy and ideally organic meats and vegetables requires time that most don’t have.

Baby Born with No Blood
baby born with no blood

Do you believe in miracles? One family in the UK does.

The Morgan family from Kent in the United Kingdom experienced a medical miracle 15-months-ago, when mom Katy Morgan, 36, woke up at 37-and-1/2 weeks pregnant covered in blood. She was rushed to the hospital and gave birth via emergency C-section to a 6 lb. 1 oz baby boy – who had no heartbeat and no blood in his body.

You read that right. Baby Oliver Morgan was born without a drop of blood in his little body. All that blood that Katy woke up in was her baby’s blood.

How to Switch from Breastfeeding to Formula

How to Switch from Breastfeeding to FormulaWhen you begin looking at using a bottle with your baby, you immediately think that you will have to give your baby formula, which many mothers would rather not do. That’s understandable. But using a bottle does not mean your baby will not be getting that nutritional breast milk.

Unique Baby Names: Are They Harmful?

by Guest Writer 1 Comment

Baby Name

Baby NameWhen hip-hop royalty couple Beyoncé Knowles and Jay-Z gave birth to their new baby girl earlier this month (January 2012), only a slight few were surprised when the couple gave their daughter a “unique” princess-worthy name—Blue Ivy.  While some scoffed that her name sounded like a new strain of marijuana, others congratulated the couple for choosing a name that was so personable to them. In fact, many non-celebrity parents have begun following suit and are now donning their newborns with non-traditional names too. But will straying away from the baby books potentially cause havoc on your child’s self-esteem and success rate later on in life? Some researchers believe so.

In a 2010 study, British researchers evaluated more than 3,000 parents who had either given their child a unique name, unique spelling, or gave their child a “unisex” name such as Taylor, Ashley, or Bailey. What researchers found were pretty astonishing—20% of surveyed parents wish they could change their child’s name. Why? They found out a little too late that a name is someone’s identifier and can cause several consequences for them later on in life. To learn how, continue reading below.
